An improved blocksadmin is on my list of 'must-haves'. Altsys provides a very nice way of doing this - filter by module, set block options and set permissions, too. Great when installing a new module.

Having the permissions select box as part of the block edit also is a good addition

First thing I like to add in a new site is title and meta data.
For me that is a show-stoper.

GibaPhp,

Thanks, I think that relates, but I'm not sure it is the same thing that I was thinking about - I was speaking of the groups as related to the block administration and groups, rather than groups and users - still it may well impact the mods I just made.

Appreciate the heads up.

Edit -
FWIW, I could create a post with the changes I made, if that is appropriate. There are not too many changes, but it still might make for a hefty post.

Well, turns out the modifications were not all that dreadful to do - and it really is pretty cool to be able to set up the blocks with their appropriate group permissions in one step.

Where might I send the modification steps?

i was thinking about this again, and personally i think i'd consider this behavior to be a bug.. it definitely isn't a feature because it isn't adding anything to the software other than solving an issue that is causing problems with some configurations of the site. that's why i'm leaning more towards calling this a bug..

Being as this is open source code, would anyone object if I took a crack at trying to accomplish this or would that be inappropriate at this point in the release cycle? Please forgive me as I'm not all that aware of the general rules for open source code or any specific rules the ImpressCMS community may have regarding such things.

release cycle is irrelvent, to an extent if you're just supplying a patch.. it is too late for 1.1 release, but can certainly be considered for 1.2. either way though, people will be able to apply the patch if they require that convenience for now.

it seems that objects can only be allowed under Trusted user, and even with that, embed tags aren't allowed inside object tags.

you'd severely compromise site security by allowing those to be posted.

however it maybe possible to create a filter for specific video sites, where you know the url & site is trusted. in which case the filter would be like the one for youtube. i'll have to look into that.
