Is Impress CMS appropriate to make a catalog site like those: https:// zoptamo.com/s-zumba-c-us, http:// tripping.com or http:// homes.com? Any advices on how to create similar site in this system?

I think that will certainly be possible, but some customisation will be necessary if you want exactly that. For the data, I would look at the catalogue or library modules mentioned on http://addons.impresscms.org/

Where I see the most customisation potentially is in the search, but that's not really unsurmountable either.

You can use ImpressCMS as a base but you'll need to develop your own customised theme to get a look like that (this will be true of any other system you use) or get someone to make one for you.

I suggest downloading bootstrap and having a play with that as the basis for developing a theme, it's free and quite easy to use (you just assign classes to elements of your page) and you can make stuff responsive as well. The tripping site you linked uses it.

They also provide a number of basic starter templates as examples that you can build on (see their 'get started' link). You might be particularly interested in carousel and jumbotron.
