Marc-AndrÃ© on ImpressCMS and Microsoft Web App Gallery

A few weeks ago, ImpressCMS was included in the Microsoft Web App Gallery. This is great news for the project, as it can now be downloaded and installed automatically with only a few clicks on a Windows Server.

Make Web Not War, Canada's first cross-platform web conference, was held back in May and during that conference, Marc-AndrÃ© explained how ImpressCMS came to be included in Microsoft Web App Gallery (also called Web PI).

MWNW showcases the latest techniques and technologies available to the ever-evolving web community, without focusing on specific platforms, such as a LAMP stack or Windows stack. ImpressCMS has been download almost 2,000 times since it was launched on WebPI and we look forward to working more closely with the Windows community for future enhancements.

ImpressCMS Coding Standards

In the last few weeks, we have been working on establishing our own coding standards. It is now time to go public with it!

General observations

All new code developed starting with 1.1 will be pure PHP 5 (discussion - PHP5 discussion in the forums)
All PHP files will use complete open tags
All files will include the ImpressCMS copyright notice, as shown in the File Header
All files, classes, class methods, class variables, functions and defines will be documented with DocBlocks
Assume all user input will be malicious - properly sanitize all form entries and $_GET, $_POST and $_COOKIE variables

The basis of the ImpressCMS coding standards are the standards used by Zend Framework, which are also based on the PEAR coding standards. However, we differ in a few ways with Zend standards. Our standards are defined below.

Those standards are to be enforced by any contributor to ImpressCMS. Since we are all human, we will make mistakes from time to time. Let's all help each other and correct our formating mistakes ;-).

A new year, and a new Packt Publishing Open Source Awards. Formerly known as the Open Source CMS Award, this 2010 edition has an enlarged number of categories. As of this year's edition, there are now also non-CMS categories that can compete.

Development on ImpressCMS is proceeding very well.

Many changes are being done during this "cleanup and refactor" release to improve compliance with the PHP5 code standards.

Next to that, also cleanups and reorganisations are done to make the code simpler, faster and easier to maintain.

While every effort is done to make sure these changes are transparent to both users and developers, not every change can be.

Impression 1.00 Final

Hereby the Final release of the article management moduleÂ Impression 1.00.Â
Impression is a simple article module based on the module imLinks (WF-Links).
It's easy to use and has only a few basic features, see below.
I (McDonald) am using this module for more than 2 years now on my own website (with less features) and so far it has been working fine.

News 1.70 Beta

As you all know Instant Zero modules are now maintained by ImpressCMS following this News story.

A lot has happened since then. I immediately started to look at all the different versions of the News module out there and found quite a few.

There were 2 versions particularly standing out, apart from the Instant Zero version, of course!

ImpressCMS Now Available From Microsoft Web App Gallery

This utility takes care of the configuration and the required software for your Web app, making the setup of your web app as close as possible to a one-click process.

Being accepted by Microsoft in this list of web applications places us in the company of very well-known and respected open source projects like Dotnetnuke, Umbraco, Wordpress and Drupal.

Security Release ImpressCMS 1.2.2

Security Release - please upgrade!

The ImpressCMS Team has just released ImpressCMS 1.2.2, which is a security release. This version patches a recently discovered vulnerability in an external library, TidyCSS. The file containing the vulnerability is not used by ImpressCMS, and can be safely removed.

Security Vulnerability Reported in CSSTidy

There has been a recent report of a potential vulnerability in the CSSTidy library included with ImpressCMS 1.2.0 and 1.2.1 releases. The vulnerability exists in a file used as a implementation of the CSSTidy classes to demonstrates how the library functions.

This file not used by ImpressCMS and can be removed from your sites.

In fact, it is recommended you remove the file. The file to remove is plugins/csstidy/css_optimiser.php. A patched version of ImpressCMS (version 1.2.2) will be released later today for new installations.
