Marc-AndrÃ© on ImpressCMS and Microsoft Web App Gallery

A few weeks ago, ImpressCMS was included in the Microsoft Web App Gallery. This is great news for the project, as it can now be downloaded and installed automatically with only a few clicks on a Windows Server.

Make Web Not War, Canada's first cross-platform web conference, was held back in May and during that conference, Marc-AndrÃ© explained how ImpressCMS came to be included in Microsoft Web App Gallery (also called Web PI).

MWNW showcases the latest techniques and technologies available to the ever-evolving web community, without focusing on specific platforms, such as a LAMP stack or Windows stack. ImpressCMS has been download almost 2,000 times since it was launched on WebPI and we look forward to working more closely with the Windows community for future enhancements.

A new year, and a new Packt Publishing Open Source Awards. Formerly known as the Open Source CMS Award, this 2010 edition has an enlarged number of categories. As of this year's edition, there are now also non-CMS categories that can compete.

Development on ImpressCMS is proceeding very well.

Many changes are being done during this "cleanup and refactor" release to improve compliance with the PHP5 code standards.

Next to that, also cleanups and reorganisations are done to make the code simpler, faster and easier to maintain.

While every effort is done to make sure these changes are transparent to both users and developers, not every change can be.

ImpressCMS Now Available From Microsoft Web App Gallery

Great news! The ImpressCMS project is now also available on the Microsoft Web App Gallery.

Getting ImpressCMS to work on your Windows web server has never been easier or more convenient, thanks to the Web Platform Installer. This utility takes care of the configuration and the required software for your Web app, making the setup of your web app as close as possible to a one-click process.

Being accepted by Microsoft in this list of web applications places us in the company of very well-known and respected open source projects like Dotnetnuke, Umbraco, Wordpress and Drupal.

Security Release ImpressCMS 1.2.2

Security Release - please upgrade!

The ImpressCMS Team has just released ImpressCMS 1.2.2, which is a security release. This version patches a recently discovered vulnerability in an external library, TidyCSS. The file containing the vulnerability is not used by ImpressCMS, and can be safely removed.

Security Vulnerability Reported in CSSTidy

There has been a recent report of a potential vulnerability in the CSSTidy library included with ImpressCMS 1.2.0 and 1.2.1 releases. The vulnerability exists in a file used as a implementation of the CSSTidy classes to demonstrates how the library functions.

This file not used by ImpressCMS and can be removed from your sites.

In fact, it is recommended you remove the file. The file to remove is plugins/csstidy/css_optimiser.php. A patched version of ImpressCMS (version 1.2.2) will be released later today for new installations.

There have been more and more discussions in the ImpressCMS eco-system about what the direction of our project should be. A very legitimate question which leads to another more important question: why it is not clear to everyone where we are going ? The answer is simple: we have not been very good to communicate our vision! Great. So now that we are aware of that, letâs take this opportunity to change this and give a clear vision and start communicating accordingly.

ImpressCMS is partnering with several other open source applications in sponsoring the 2nd "Make Web Not War" Conference (http://www.webnotwar.ca/) in Montreal, Quebec on May 27, 2010.

Make Web Not War (MWNW) is Canada's cross-platform conference, showcasing the latest techniques and technologies available to the ever-evolving web community. MWNW is about bridging the gap between different platforms, communities and developers of all trades and backgrounds.

ImpressCMS will also be featured as part of the Ignite Presentations (http://www.webnotwar.ca/schedule/) - demos of 6 web applications - alongside TikiWiki (http://www.tikiwiki.org). Marc-Andre Lanciault, one of the initiators and the lead developer for ImpressCMS, will be attending the conference and demonstrating the power and flexibility of ImpressCMS.

Release of ImpressCMS 1.2.1 Final

The ImpressCMS project is very proud to announce the release of ImpressCMS 1.2.1 Final! A huge release like 1.2 always has some issues that come along. Those have now been addressed in 1.2.1 and we have now reach the final stage of 1.2.1.
