Google Translation Error Identified - Response Needed

A rather unfortunate error has been discovered in how Google Translate is translating "ImpressCMS" to other languages. We all know that Google Translate and all other machine translation is not 100% accurate, but it is usually quite good at recognizing names and brands. It is not the case with XOOPS and ImpressCMS.

An email has been sent the XOOPS project administrator requesting their participation in resolving this error, and they have offered their full support in this matter, including a letter of support to Google. They agree with us this is not helping ImpressCMS nor XOOPS. We have also initiated a request with Google to investigate the source of the error and to provide us with steps to resolve globally.

Managing non-coding tasks on Assembla

Some of you might have noticed a new space in the ImpressCMS portfolio on Assembla : "ImpressCMS nocode Projects".

An open source project has many tasks that need to be done, and quite a number of those tasks do not involve coding at all. Until now, we managed by sending mails to one another, but that's not a very efficient nor a very transparent way of working. Hence this new Assembla space.

ImpressCMS 1.3.4 also available on Softaculous

If you are using a hosting company that supports Softaculous, you're in luck. Softaculous just updated the ImpressCMS package on their service to the latest ImpressCMS 1.3.4 version. That page links to a demo instance of the latest ImpressCMS, where you can also comment and rate the package.

One thing is sure : these guys are fast!

Softaculous is one of the most widely used installer platforms for web-based PHP scripts. It is installed as a service on web servers and allow you to install a wide variety of PHP tools and classes on your system without having to dive deep into configuration settings.

SVN twitter feed reactivated
The impresscms_svn twitter feed has just been reactivated. This time, the feed is not limited to subversion commits anymore, but pushes all the development actions on the core towards twitter: SVN commits, ticket creations and comments. You name it.

Join the ImpressCMS Chat on Skype

lotus, one of our German community leaders, recently started a ImpressCMS chat room on Skype. If you want to discuss something, or you need help fast, this chat is the way to go. This is also an easy way for the dev team to stay in contact, which should help to increase development speed.

In the last few weeks, we have been working on establishing our own coding standards. It is now time to go public with it!

General observations

  • All new code developed starting with 1.1 will be pure PHP 5 (discussion - PHP5 discussion in the forums)
  • All PHP files will use complete open tags
  • All files will include the ImpressCMS copyright notice, as shown in the File Header
  • All files, classes, class methods, class variables, functions and defines will be documented with DocBlocks
  • Assume all user input will be malicious - properly sanitize all form entries and $_GET, $_POST and $_COOKIE variables

The basis of the ImpressCMS coding standards are the standards used by Zend Framework, which are also based on the PEAR coding standards. However, we differ in a few ways with Zend standards. Our standards are defined below.

Those standards are to be enforced by any contributor to ImpressCMS. Since we are all human, we will make mistakes from time to time. Let's all help each other and correct our formating mistakes .
