ImpressCMS on PHP5 Published by Tom on 2008/5/14 (2779 reads)
Effective immediately, ImpressCMS will no longer support PHP4 in future releases of our Community Management System.

PHP 4.4.8 marks the last normal release for the PHP4 series, with the exception of security patches, until its end of life on August, 08 2008.

Like php.net, ImpressCMS will continue to support PHP4 in our 1.0 Final release until August 08, 2008. When, and if, security releases are necessary, patches will be available to those users that are using ImpressCMS 1.0 in a PHP4 based environment.

To recap, we strongly encourage all users to take advantage of the enhanced functionality, and security of the PHP5 series. This move enables ImpressCMS to be lighter, and more feature rich, as many PHP5 only features can now be implemented into the core.

If you are interested in upgrading your PHP4 environment to PHP5, either contact your hosting provider, or see the resources below.

In fact, the first Alpha will be released on May 19 or 20th, and it will not contain a full upgrade script. So 1.1 Alpha will only work as a full install but it will allow the code to start being tested.

The first beta will contain the full upgrade script (which I am working on at the moment). 1.1 Beta is to be expected something like 2 weeks from now.

Cheers !

Thanks, its great to have a clear announcement and cut off date. Hopefully, people will set up new sites on PHP5 from now on in order to avoid future pain!
