Release of ImpressCMS 1.1 Alpha 1

The ImpressCMS Community is excited to announce the availability of ImpressCMS 1.1 Alpha 1 for testing.
With this release we are now another step closer to becoming a true Community Management System (CMS). Right out of the box you now have a powerful and effective system at your disposal, so whether you are looking to make a simple website with our built-in content manager or extend this to a fully interactive platform for your users via our advanced range of modules, the power is there and ready for you to use. Important This is the very first release of the all new 1.1 version of ImpressCMS and this package is not to be installed on production site. The purpose of this release is solely to get the system tested as much as possible. We have implemented a huge amount of long requested features and we felt the release cycle of this version needed to start with an alpha stage. But don't worry! Final release will also be available in a few short weeks and will then be able to use this awesome new version on your production site! Help us to get this baby tested, do so will help speed up the delivery process of our stable final version. Release Packages Over the following weeks we will release a series of 'Alphas', these are for testing and not for use on a live production website. Alphas tend to be releases targeted at developers to test the code and get familiar with the new additions - but don't let this put you off because we welcome everyone to get involved. Shortly after we've confirmed all the features are implemented we will then move into 'Beta' phase, during this time we would appreciate all users getting involved and reporting all the bugs found, remember that the quicker we get these reports, the quicker we can make the fixes, then move on the Release Candidate (RC) and then of course the 'Final' (Stable). PHP4 Support ImpressCMS recently announced that all future releases of our Community Management System will be coded to work with PHP5 and that support for PHP4 will be dropped, effective with this Alpha release. ImpressCMS would like to remind users that we will continue to support version 1.0 of our Community Management System with PHP4 until PHP.net drops their support on August 8th 2008. This will include support via our forums along with the addition of any security updates and patches that may arise. With the upgrade to PHP5 this will also affect the minimum supported MySQL version. It is apparent that the minimum supported version of MySQL with PHP5 is 4.1.0 which also brings us in line with UTF due to this being where MySQL introduced UTF support. Therefore as of ImpressCMS 1.1 our minimum supported version of MySQL will also be 4.1.0. Note: Hosting providers should now come with PHP5 as standard, however we understand some are duel packaged with PHP4 and PHP5. Normally you can override the Apache settings adding additional code to a .htaccess file, if you are unsure of how to accomplish this then you should seek advice from your providers. Nightly Build ImpressCMS automatically generates nightly builds, these allow you to test the latest additions to the code and although we urge users not to try this in a live production website, we would like to request that you do test run these builds and give us your feedback to help improve future releases.
