ImpressCMS 1.1 RC2 is Now Released!

The ImpressCMS Project (http://www.impresscms.org) is in the last stages of releasing final stable version of this new open source content management system and have released ImpressCMS 1.1 RC2. Several improvements have been made since the release of the first release candidate and users are encouraged to install this release in a test environment and thoroughly test this version - it is not intended for production sites. But we are confident that the final version of ImpressCMS 1.1 should be released very shortly.

New Features in ImpressCMS 1.1

* Integration of TinyMCE WYSIWYG editor - can be set as the default editor for ImpressCMS and administrators have control over which groups can use it for each module installed.
* HTML Purifier has been added to improve security and rendering of standards-compliant output.
* Easy addition of Google Analytics and validation tags - just enter your identifier from Google in the administration area and ImpressCMS does the rest.
* Better control over groups - a group hierarchy can be set allowing groups to manage other groups in your community.
* OpenID and Gravatar integration, allowing your users to login with an OpenID identity obtained on other sites (Yahoo, Flickr, AOL, Blogger, or WordPress are sites you can obtain an OpenID login) and use a globally recognized avatar.
* Version 1.1 is the first version of ImpressCMS to require PHP5 and that PHP safe_mode is turned OFF (PHP6 removes safe_mode completely). The installer will check both these conditions before allowing you to continue.

The complete list of features introduced in 1.1 is available in online.

Changes Since RC1

* Additional filters in HTMLPurifier, allowing the insertion of movies from several trusted sites
* Improvements in the rendering of the Google Analytics script, when used
* Several fixes for issues in different browsers

The complete change log is included with the release and is available online in our wiki

Downloading the Latest Version

To download this new release of ImpressCMS, you can find it in our SourceForge repository. The download package allows you to either do a fresh installation, or upgrade from an earlier version of ImpressCMS or XOOPS.

This is a release candidate and not a final release! It is not recommended for live sites

If you wish to keep updated with the very latest in ImpressCMS development, you can download our nightly build.

Release candidates are intended to increase the number of testers and to provide the developers with additional information related to bugs found in different environments. Any feedback about this release can be posted in the Current Release Discussions forum. Any security vulnerabilities should be reported directly to the developers - security@impresscms.org.

Wow, not so fast
;-)

I was still experimenting with RC 1, which went well by the way!!

Is it sufficient to overwrite the existing files or is a fresh install in a test environment advised for good testing??

Overwrite the files and update the System module.

Enjoy !

Please note that after a successfull upgrading from Xoops 2.2.x some modules may not work correctly.
These modules are specially written/modified for Xoops 2.2.x series.
You might have to replace these modules with 2.0.x versions and probably have to make adjustments (manually) to the modules database tables.

Finally, a real CMS, the worst thing only is tinyMCE

Integration of TinyMCE WYSIWYG editor

TinyMCE is the worst choice, there are some parts of the modules configuration where tinyMCE is not applicable, like Adsense box in News 1.62. Like WFDownloads/SmartPartners/Section boxes for declaration mime-types

FCKEditor 2.6.x works fine on all browsers, and have ability to be disabled on request, in tinymce no matter u're clicked HTML (for entering html code), this editor don't accept it as code.

But otherwise, finally there is a UTF-8 fully operational release, wondering which of the two to be translated first, OOPS 2.3 or Impress 1.1 :)

True, TinyMCE is a crime for setting Preferences in modules or other places where you don't want html-code.
If you activate the bbcode plugin that comes with TinyMCE the editor will act as a wysiwyg DHTML editor.
