Instant Zero modules now reside within ImpressCMS Published by Tom on 2009/11/19 (747 reads)

Recently we all shared the unfortunate news that Instant Zero has decided to end development of their modules, along with the closure of their business and website. This came as a tremendous shock and loss to not only ImpressCMS but XOOPS as well. Both communities were left wondering what was to happen to such useful modules, which are widely used across a large percentage of XOOPS and ImpressCMS powered websites.

After consulting with Hervé Thouzard, the owner of Instant Zero, it is with great pleasure that we are announcing that ImpressCMS is able to offer support and continued development of some of Instant Zero's modules.

Without any doubt we are sure that everyone will agree that regardless of the paths we choose, Hervé has been an inspiration and cornerstone within our projects, he was a driving force in high quality module development. His dedication and willingness to help others over the years has been an inspiration and will sadly be missed from all of our hearts.

As a project we realise that this is a dark time losing a highly talented developer. Any time an open source project loses such a talented developer, it can be a serious loss. We also acknowledge that such a loss would have an irreparable impact on our communities, and because of this we approached Hervé for his kind permission to continue support and development of those modules that we feel will benefit both communities the most.

Here are a few words from Hervé:

"The ImpressCMS project have my complete blessings in releasing and continue the development of the Instant Zero community modules. I truly believe that this is the very best solution for the users and the module themselves"

Beginning immediately, ImpressCMS will be taking over development of the following Instant Zero modules:

  • Birthday
  • Boox
  • Newbexx
  • iSearch
  • Marquee
  • MyDownloads
  • Myiframe
  • News
  • Olédrion (shop)
  • Shortcuts
  • Userpage
  • XoopsCare

All modules have now been added to our SVN for their continued development.

This is wonderful news!

Best of luck to Herve in his future Endeavors. (When and if you decide to come back Herve, I hope you will be willing to try on an ICMS Developer Hat)

Horrible news, and I hope that Hervet open his door again someday.
But it is a good news knows his modules live here.

Well I don't know what he plans for his future from here, but if he ever wanted to get involved with ICMS then I'm sure everyone would welcome him with open arms.

I wish him all the best for the future, he deserves it!

Small correction - the modules will be uploaded in a short while to svn.

@Debianus - yes I should clarify. It is great news that his hard work will not be lost. It is terrible news that Herve himself has had to endure such hardships.

A big thank you to Herve from me. He has always been very helpful to me and I still use his modules daily as a core element of my work site. I hope he will join us here in future. I greatly appreciate his work.

FaYsSaL - we'll be working on an update to News 1.64 soon - so if you, or any others, would like to contribute code - please check the link to request developer access

This obvious applies to the other modules of course

I've also made sure that the Addons Trac has got all the required entries for any fault issues with the modules.

I could not have put it any better than this. Herve, I hope you come back some time in the very near future.
